Trail ratings explained

Most local systems use color ratings similar to ski trails. Exact definitions vary by land manager — treat colors as a guide, not a guarantee.

Green

Gentler grades, wider lines, fewer technical features. Good for learning brakes and balance.

Blue

Moderate climbs and descents, tighter turns, occasional roots or rocks. Where many practice loops live once basics click.

Black

Steeper, more committing features, and less margin for error. Build up with coaching — do not jump ratings just because a race course includes a black section.
